Atelophobia

What’s atelophobia?

Atelophobia is the fear of not being good enough

And are you letting it stop you from processing or getting started with your service or product then getting it on sale ready for orders?

Do you recall in the chapter: Excuses:Not Good Enough where I spoke about that it is your customers who will decide whether your product or services meet their expectations?

NOTE: I said your product or services NOT you meeting their expectations.

Is the limiting belief of fearing that your product or service won't meet your customer’s expectations, preventing you from even starting?

And is this fear of being told off by your customer controlling your sales and so preventing you from taking action?

The fear of not being good enough affects your sense of power, self-esteem and our self image. It can also sabotage you if you have a poor self image and so your actions are driven by atelophobia and your current mindset.

The fear of not being good enough corrodes your confidence and certainty to completing  to a specific standard.

The other day, I was looking at the Zen Pencil website (brilliant website) and came across Gavin Aung Than's (website owner)  interpretation of the Chuck Jones story on creative work and not comparing yourself to others.

"Creative work is never competitive":Chuck Jones

I am certain that you've watched or heard of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Road Runner that are a few of Chuck Jones animations.

Yesm Chuck was the Looney Tunes guy and his story of going to art school where everyone was 20 to 25 years old, taller than him and fresh out of college is a good example of thinking you are 'not good enough'.

He looked around at them in his class and thought; “I cant compete with these guys. They draw like Lenardo Da Vinci”

He stuck it for a week and at 15 years old thought he was a failure.

One evening whilst talking to his uncle, during the conversation, he blurted out;  "You can't make a racehorse outta of a pig!"

His uncle replied: “No. But you can make a very fast pig” and  that is when Chuck realised that that is what it's all about.

He could only be as good as he could be.

He also realised that: “Whatever my limits were, I learnt a second thing: Creative work is never competitive”.

The moral of his story and the lightbulb moment for me was that comparing yourself to others and letting your past run your future achieves nothing.

Want me to repeat that or can I suggest you re-read that last paragraph again please?

String bean with one odd
Ever felt as though you dont belong?

Okay, what if someone else does it better than you do?
What if no one likes it?

What if this?

What if that?

All of these “what if’s” can take you through you natural lifespan wondering: what would have happened if you had just believed in yourself and just got on with it and leave it to your customers to answer those "What If" questions.

Look, you can only do the best you can as Chuck says, so use your customer feedback, to adjust and give another version if need be of your product or service.

Choose to believe that your service or product is good enough to accomplish your customer's needs satisfactorily.

There are customers out there waiting for your services or product but you gotta have at least one sale.

If you start something and it doesn’t turn out just the way you wanted it to, then try it again. Remember my last post found here on this topic?

Improve upon it, and then improve upon it again, and then practice some more, and then improve again if need be.

Remember that when starting your next product or services!

These books below can give you more of an idea on how to be ‘good enough' for yourself, your product, your services and for your customers.
